What is familywanted.org?

Founded by Jenna MacFarlane in 2007, familywanted is a non-profit organization and an online community interested in expanding familial connections. We do this by shared experience and The Human Family Project. Jenna MacFarlane has based the concept behind familywanted on her personal journey.

What is The Human Family Project ?

The first stage of familywanted, The Human Family Project is an international story writing project aimed at people wanting to expand family connections. The question, 'what is family?' is answered by familywanted members. You may post stories about your family and what you are seeking with new family. Stories are anonymous and free from cross talk, so that all may share freely what is in their hearts. To post a story is a pre-requisite for a family search, once Stage 2 of the familywanted is realized.

What if I want to edit my story after it has posted?

Encouraged to edit your story, the support team at familywanted will gladly swap out your edited story, in effect replacing your old story. This is encouraged because it is a sign of an evolving and changing life. To have your story reflect who you are and where you are in your life is a goal of The Human Family Project.

Are there any dues for membership?

Currently, the only cost is US$10 to post a Human Family Project story. All of the proceeds are used to build the website. All who register are considered members. There are no dues. However, at some point in the future a fee for the search feature will be activated for those who wish to conduct their search and create a profile for that object. All fees are utilized to cover site development costs. All administrators of familywanted are volunteers.

For our international friends, welcome! If you wish to issue a foreign currency check and you do not have a Paypal account, you may send a check for the correct exchange rate to Familywanted, Inc. POB 9185, Charlotte, NC 28299.

Whether domestic or international, when you send payment, include your user name with your check so that your payment will be correctly matched to your profile. Once your check clears, you will be notified by email that you have been verified to post your story.

Do you have plans to expand the site to allow for family searches?

Indeed, there are plans. However, the goal of 500 stories for The Human Family Project must be met first before additional resources may be alloted for searching capabilities. A pre-requisite for finding new family members is to post a story through The Human Family Project. Story posters are able to communicate with one another, in effect forming an online community of compassionate individuals who've been brought together for the common goal of seeking familial connections.

Why is it important to post a story on The Human Family Project?

Because many individuals who are without family connections have suffered in various ways and to different degrees, the story writing process assists with a sense of self reflection and an ability to discover aspects of the inner landscape. As the story is being written, questions will arise such as: what am I looking for in a family; what do I have to offer; am I ready to be part of a family; what am I grateful for in my life? These questions and more will possibly cross the story 'page' allowing for solace, comfort and self-healing, especially with each re-write.

I don't know how to write. Am I able to submit a story to The Human Family Project?

Certainly. The familywanted support staff will handily correct any spelling or grammatical errors before posting. The stories are for each individual as an exercise in self-discovery. The only competition is within. The experience is encouraged as a personal journey on a beautifully shaded path, revealing new features with each bend. New rocks to look under. Wildlife to observe and as always an awestruck wonder that every one of us is a unique individual with a voice and rich perspective.

What is The First Ad ?

The First Ad is a pilot program consisting of one ad by Founder Jenna MacFarlane to determine if finding a familiy via the Internet and the U.S. Mail is possible. Once the goal of 500 stories on The Human Family Project is met, and a viable avenue for family searches has been established, then the next stage of familywanted will be rolled out and launched. The First Ad pilot program will be a barometer for the viability of internet family searches.

Are there functional families available to adopt individual familywanted members?

There has been a cross section of interest from all walks of life, internationally and including functional families. However, familywanted is in its inception phase and the facilitation of formal adoptions is not an available service at this time. All story posters are encouraged to support one another through correspondence and where appropriate, informal adoptions 'of the heart' are possible.

You may send a donation to Familywanted, Inc., POB 9185, Charlotte, NC 28299. Currently, Familywanted is not a 501(c)(3) organization, therefore, all contributions are non tax deductible. Donations assist with building a future infrastructure for organized family searches.
