What does family mean to you?

Welcome to The Human Family Project, a place where hope and love, courage and wisdom distill to the common page. Through words and reflections, we may find comfort in parallel experience.

Write about hopes and dreams. Past challenges and reflections. What are you seeking? The answer is within you. This is your time to speak out about whatever is in your heart in an anonymous way.

You have relayed breathtakingly honest stories. You may be awed knowing that you are no longer alone. You have us. And we are from all over the world.

The Human Family Project will function as a precursor to search for new family connections. For those of you interested in the next stage of familywanted, ask yourself, 'what would I like family to be?'

The stories are anonymously posted, though feel free to post State, Province, Country. Your location will be of interest to others.

The Human Family Project will begin to resemble a human textile woven with common threads of connection, love and hope. Family is something we share. The Human Family Project celebrates connection -- that which we have and that which will be.

Follow the links to post your story. The fee is ten dollars and all funds will be applied directly towards building this site. Stories are limited to 2000 words each. The stories will be read for content and posted in the order they are received.

Writing tips:

Be honest: this is your chance to describe your life experience through family in a safe and secure environment.

Be positive: sharing for the benefit of ourselves and others is part of growing through painful experiences; we become able to see our lives and our family relationships as what we make them.

Be accurate: a thoughtful and well-written story -- grammatically correct and spell-checked -- will enable your words to reach the reader with your best foot forward.

Be brief: a story has a beginning, middle and end with a few main points expressed; think about what your values and beliefs are as a result of living through your individual experiences while you write.

Be gracious: even if we have been hurt, the stories are meant to be exercises in moving forward, visualizing aspects of family relationships that don't necessarily relate to past wrongs.
